Some facts about the current state of affairs:

  • Most plastics today are used to produce disposable items.
  • About 8 million pieces of plastic end up in the oceans every day.
  • It takes over 200 years for a plastic straw to break down.
  • 90% of seabirds have eaten plastic waste.
  • 4 billion trees, or 35% of felled trees are used for paper production.
  • The production of 1000 kg of paper costs 98 000 kg in energy resources.

Wheat Straw are:

Suitable for cold & hot drinks

Our wheat straws are suitable for both hot and cold drinks. Wheat straws do not melt, do not absorb and do not release substances, and like we said before, wheat straws naturally contain no harmful substances, all together it guarantees a higher quality of drinking experience.

100% Stronger than paper

Wheat straws are stronger and more durable than paper straws thanks to their structure and composition. Wheat straws absorb minimal amounts of moisture therefore they do not disintegrate when in contact with liquid. In addition wheat straws have the advantage that when they came into contact with liquid, their fragility is much less compare to dry straws made of other materials!

100% natural

Wheat straw comes from naturally occurring plants. Due to its natural vascular structure, it is not necessary to process and/or strengthen wheat straws with chemicals. Following a careful cleaning process, the straws are immediately packed and ready for consumption. Wheat straws naturally contain no harmful substances.

Durability

Wheat straws are the most environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic and paper because of their natural durability. In addition, no factories are needed in terms of production, as only growing straws are harvested and collected for production, so cutting down forests such as for paper production is not necessary.

What you need to know about sugar
cane in general:

65% – 70% of the world’s sugar comes fromsugar cane, with the rest coming from sugar beet.

Sugarcane fiber packaging is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional packaging materials. Ethically sourced and renewable sugar cane fibers offer many benefits to the packaging industry

About Sugar Cane

What is sugar cane?

Sugar cane or sugar cane fiber is also called bagasse. It is the fibrous part of a sugar cane stalk that remains after distilling the juice. bagasse is and originally means "waste", but by converting the sugar cane stalks into a biomass they get a new life as a valuable multifunctional raw material. Among other things, this raw material can be used to make a variety of different products, including paper products, packaging products such as meal boxes and pizza boxes, as well as plates, cutlery, cups, mugs and bowls.

Curious about the versatility of sugar cane products?

View our extensive range of sugar cane products in our shop. However, if you have a new innovative, or new idea, for a new product made from sugar cane, please contact us to evaluate the possibilities of the new production.

How is sugar cane produced?

The process of turning raw sugar cane into a sustainable product is much simpler than you might think. Production begins with the distillation of all juice and nutritional components from the harvested sugar cane stalks. Only the bagasse fibers remain after the extraction. Then the fibers are finely mixed with water, this process creates a pulp with a consistency similar to wood pulp, but with a higher content of cellulose, which provides extra firmness and structure. Pressure and heat are added to convert and shape the pulp into a versatile, eco-friendly plant material that has a wide variety of uses.

Recycling

About 1.2 billion tons of sugar cane is produced annually. 100 million tons of bagasse is made of this annually. While some of this bagasse is burned as biofuel, a lot of it is also thrown away. Sugar cane production finds new uses for this agricultural by-product that would otherwise have been thrown away, reducing waste and supporting farmers. The biodegradability ensures that a product can degrade itself over time. Sugar cane fiber can biodegrade naturally within 30 to 90 days. However, in commercial composting plants, sugar cane products can degrade even faster after consumption. Bagasse can be fully composted in just 60 days. Once composted, bagasse turns into a nutrient-rich fertilizer of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and calcium.

What are the environmental benefits of sugar cane fiber?

Every year 20 million trees are cut down to make paper cups. Most of those cups are encased in polyethylene, a derivative of fossil fuels. Worse, it takes over 20 years for a single paper cup to end up in a landfill. In addition, approximately 40% of the wood we harvest is used for commercial and industrial applications. This overuse of wood leads to biodiversity loss, deforestation, water pollution and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. By providing an alternative to tree-based paper products, sugarcane fiber offers enormous potential. Environmentally friendly materials have three characteristics: they are renewable, biodegradable and compostable. Sugarcane fiber has all these characteristics.
